I don't understand...

This is absolutely awful. For at least the third straight day, ESPN is broadcasting college softball...and not at three in the morning either! Are you telling me that there's nothing else you could be showing over their at the Worldwide Leader? C'mon...How about classic episodes of "Up Close"? I bet Roy Firestone isn't watching softball.

I'm sure that these girls are tremendously gifted athletes and their parents love'em a tone but get them the hell off of my TV. ESPN should just start a Women's sports channel. That way women can watch themselves play sports all day and night. That would be great. For now though, I'd just like to say that I'm really sick of flipping to ESPN and seeing that Moose of a pitcher for Alabama. On a Saturday afternoon no less.

Now the game is in a weather delay because of a tornado warning. Are you fucking kidding me?

What's worse is that we're both watching it. Fucking weather delay is killing me.

I can't believe Cat Osterman is still in school. She's the Dante Calabria of softball.

Are they gonna start this game or what? I'll stay up all night if I have to.

Alabama got the win in 11 innings this morning. Cat Osterman has a .38 ERA with 568 K's this season. Softball. Catch the fever.

Ouch, the Celestial got thrown out stealing 2nd for Texas. I'm really enjoying turning this space into the college softball blog.

Man...thanks for the update. I could barely sleep last night worrying about the Crimson Tide's chances of carrying the softball banner for all us SEC Softball fans. Whew!

Mark said...

Yes. This is what I had envisioned when I took that brief sabbatical a few weeks back.

By the way, the term celestial is easily one of the top two reasons why I enjoyed this past season of Deadwood. That and the phrase "He who doubts me, sucks cock by choice."

It's times like this that I thank god that I have the means to own multiple televisions. Texas vs. Arizona on ESPN and Berlin vs. Cologne on FOX. My head is practicaly spinning with all of this action going on around me.

I've got the softball game on the main TV, and NASCAR and the Yankees game on the other 2. And yes, ladies, I'm single.

I think this game is going to come down to a fielding error. These pitchers are untouchable. Texas had a player named Wynter and Arizona has a player named Autumn.

I think the Vols are still around to carry the SEC flag, but it's gotta be tough to root for them after their wars with Florida.

Yeah, just the sight of that horrible creamsicle orange makes me ill. I've only rotted for UT once in my life...'99 Fiesta Bowl vs. FSU. Strictly a conference loyalty thing at that point.

If Tonya and Veronica fought on on Pay-Per View, would you order it? I'd pay at least 39.95 for it. My girlfriend, on the other hand, would by ringside seats.

Mark said...

My girlfriend just yelled at me for making her watch "unneccessary sports"...this isn't going to end well.

Jerry said...

You've got the wrong half of the Wheelhouse for that question. I remember Tonya, but I don't know who Veronica is.

Clearly, I don't have time to watch shows like that.

Osterman mows 'em down and we're headed for extra innings!

Mark said...

I forget that Burr is your pop-culture source. Veronica is the bitchy little cuban girl.

Like I always say...there's nothing like free softball!!

I don't know what else is on TV, but I'd have to agree that any of this definitely qualifies as "unecessary sports".

Texas gets the leadoff chick on via a dropped 3rd strike and inserts the "running specialist". In softball you're allowed to pinch run for each player one time and leave them in the game.

I think Texas is slightly better looking than Arizona so I'm rooting for them. I'm definitely rooting for whover wins this game to go all the way.

Can we get some uniformity on the freakin softball diamond. Either you all wear visors or you don't. That's why it's called a uniform. You don't see Paul Konerko running around without his hat on do you? Get it together ladies.

Jerry said...

And shorts. Some of them wear shorts.

Upon further inspection, Arizona might be hotter. But I'm still rooting for Texas.

Mark said...

Here's the latest quote from my girlfriend. While looking at the Texas coaching giving signs to the hitter, "Wow. I can't beleive they have a deaf coach...ohh nevermind"

Jerry said...

That was a filthy backdoor curve on 3-2.

Mark said...

14 K's for Osterman. I actually thought you were joking about her having 568 K's last night. She has over 580 on the seaon now. That's impressive but shouldn't there be some sort of sliding scale for K's in softball? They're obviously far more common than in baseball.

Cologne just scored on a 33 yard touchdown pass to Romby Bryant to take the lead 17-13. This bitter Cologne-Berlin rivalry really brings out the best in both of these teams.

Mark said...

What? They don't have any playoffs in NFL Europe? Just a regular seson and then the World Bowl the next week? That's horrible.

Jerry said...

Yeah, it's totally different. It's impossible to hit these pitchers. I know I couldn't do it, although I could probably bunt my way on base a lot. But it's still a ridiculous # of K's.

Texas strands another runner at 2nd.

Jerry said...

There's only like 6 teams in the NFL Europe.

Top of the order for Arizona.

Mark Texiera is the most underrated player in baseball.

Mark said...

Teixera is a beast. Blalock has the prettiest swing around.

Mark said...

Foul...I thought that was gone at first.

Jerry said...

Yeah, that was a bomb and a totally botched call by Pam Ward.

Another K for Osterman.

And the Twins take a 3-2 lead! Oh yeah.

Jerry said...

Nice gun from the hot catcher.

Jerry said...

Osterman is losing steam in the 10th. 3 walks, but she struck out #18 with 2 on to get out of it. Texas better score soon.

I wonder if either of these pitchers will be able to go in the nightcap.

Jerry said...

Texas draws blood in the 11th. With 2 on and 1 out the chick who likes hippos dumped a single into right. The throw came home and the girl from 2nd was out by 20 feet. She stopped and got hung up between 3rd and home. The 3rd basegirl ended up throwing the ball into her back and she scored.

Arizona gunned down the celestial at home on a grounder to 2nd to keep the lead at 1.

Top of the order for the Lady Wildcats in the bottom.

Jerry said...

Arizona loaded the bases with 1 out. Pop to right. Strike out. Texas wins 1-0.

Jerry said...

Just to put a bow on this dicussion: Osterman looked like she was gassed at the end of the Arizona game so the Texas coach decided to start a freshman with too much eye makeup in the nightcap against UCLA. She gave up 3 runs (only 1 earned) before the coach brought Osterman in. She completely shut down UCLA for the rest of the game, but in softball 3 runs might as well be 300. Especially because Texas can't hit.

The got 2 runners on in the 6th for their #3 and #4 hitter, but couldn't convert. UCLA advances to the finals.
